Eight years after their debut album "Personal Addictions" on Part Records, P-51 is back with their new album "23 Flying Hits" to please dancers and their fans again! 23 swingin’, jivin’n’ groovin’ danceable hits created for all the enthusiasts and fans that have been following the band over years.
During the months of lockdown, in the forced absence of live shows, the band got together to record what characterizes them: Energetic, danceable music that will get the blood in your feet pumpin’! While faithfully delivering the original versions the band also manages to stick to their own sound, which they have been playing for almost 20 years now. And so “23 Flying Hits” shows the influences and the spirit from their early days - until today. They still dig that Rock’n’Roll.
It all began 2002 in the northern Part of Italy, where Blues music has been reigning for many years. With a huge passion for Rock’n’Roll Mauro Tognin and Massimiliano Vidali founded the “P-51 Airplanes”. It didn’t take the band long to start playing all over the country and brining the good ol’ 50ies music from overseas to Italy. Staying close to the original sound while adding their own elements, the band added their own eccentric style and sound to their music.
In 2006 the band recorded their first independent CD named “Take Off!”. With 13 classic songs, usually considered milestones for Rock’n’Roll, the P-51 Airplanes set foot into the rockin’ scene. Appearances on several national festivals followed, such as “Cortona Dance Festival”, “Delta Blues”, “Summer Jamboree” and “Vintage Root Festival” as well as many club concerts.
For their 10-year anniversary the Airplanes started recording a new album and were joined by the talented double bass player and singer Alessio Trapello. Alessio has sung lead vocals in bands of the historical panorama of Italian progressive music, such as "New Trolls" and "Le Orme".
In the same year (2012) the band finished the recording and mixing of “Personal Addictions” a project which also included originals written and played by the band in collaboration with friends like Antonella "The Nightingale" and "Wainer Mr. Fargo" from "Wheels Fargo And The Nightingale", Buddy Harry from "Red Cadillac" and others whom P-51 wanted to include for this project and to celebrate the 10 years with.
The colorful and involving rhythm of the band and the choice of an unforgettable repertoire made up mainly of the great classics of the time, measured and alternated in order to create an optimal dance curve, earned P-51 the reputation of being one of the more entertaining and best dance bands at national level, so much as to deserve the nickname of "Floor Filler Band" and be hired several times to play in some of the sacred temples of dance since the '60s including "La Cà Del Ballo" and the "Balera Dell'Ortica".
Also in 2012, the band has been selected to play along with Mr. Bobby Solo. A year later an amazing collaboration started with Roy Paci leading the P-51 Airplanes to perform with one of the biggest and versatile contemporary Italian trumpet player.
In 2017 the P-51 Airplanes started a wonderful collaboration with Californian artist and friend Pep Torres whom they accompanied on a small Italian tour and some dates in Switzerland.
